5-Day Bricklaying Course Overview

Goldtrowel offers a comprehensive 5-day bricklaying course designed to teach you essential skills for laying bricks and blocks safely and effectively. While you can learn the basics in a day, mastering these skills takes practice.

What You Will Learn:

• Understanding footings and foundations
• Setting out masonry structures, including cavity walls
• Different types of brick bonds and their uses
• Types of blocks and their applications
• Building corners and piers
• Mixing mortars and additives
• Laying mortar beds for bricks and blocks
• Understanding damp-proof courses (DPCs)
• Jointing and finishing techniques
• Ensuring walls are plumb, level, and have the right range

You will have plenty of opportunities to ask questions, and the pace of the training will allow you to get the most out of the experience. The course includes both indoor and outdoor practical sessions, so you can understand how environmental conditions affect bricklaying.

Course Breakdown:

Day 1: Build a single skin brick wall in Stretcher Bond with returns and piers. Discuss footings.

Day 2: Learn about various brickwork bonds and build a double-skinned wall with a pier and return.

Day 3: Theory on damp-proof courses and building blockwork corners.

Day 4: Continue with cavity brick/block work, incorporating external and internal corners. Use door/window profiles and install DPCs.

Day 5: Complete the brickwork module, set the lintel, and learn about soldier courses. Finish up with cleaning structures, tools, and receive your training certificate.
